The benefits of weight training for women
There are many benefits of weight training for women. Unfortunately these can be overlooked due to the misconception that weight training will make you look ‘bulky, overly muscular or masculine. High levels of the hormone oestrogen make it difficult for women to become overly muscular. The changes related to resistance training are generally related to muscle tone, endurance and strength. Muscle becomes more firm giving a feminine toned look.
So why should I weight train?
You will lose body fat: If you have more lean muscle mass then you have a higher metabolism which means you will burn more calories even while resting.
You will increase your bone density and will reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue, typically as a result of hormonal changes.
You will have reduced risk of heart disease: weight training helps reduce your bad cholesterol and increase your good cholesterol which helps maintain a healthy heart.
You will become stronger and everyday activities will become much easier to complete which will contribute to your general wellbeing.
