What are the benefits of functional training and what makes functional fitness training so good for you?

Visit almost any gym nowadays and you are likely to see more people using functional training techniques within their workouts. With so many different training styles it's sometimes hard to figure out which training style suits or is best for you.

Below are some huge benefits of functional training.

Movement Matters

Our bodies are designed to move, the less you move the less blood sugar your body uses.

Functional training focuses on training movement patterns rather than isolating individual muscles.

If you spend most of your working day sat down in the office, sitting on the chest press machine is probably counterproductive and therefore not beneficial.

Posture

Functional training can help to correct bad posture and muscular imbalances caused by the daily grind, stressful jobs and hectic lifestyles.

Training to improve and maintain posture is massively underrated and should have a part in your weekly routine.

Fat Burning

Functional training provides excellent fat burning workouts, by using full body exercises that have many benefits such as improving strength, endurance and boosts metabolism.

Functional training won’t waste a minute of your session, it can be 30 minutes long but within that time you will burn more calories than an hour of running on a treadmill.

Muscle Tone/Density

It develops strong, lean bodies for example, Olympic gymnasts, they are constantly training movement patterns and lifting their own bodyweight and they’re in incredible shape.

They are a great example of how functional training can have huge benefits on the body.

Stability

Every session includes flexibility, mobility, core stability, balance and strength training principles to keep your body constantly challenged in all areas to have a strong, healthy and vibrant body.

Sports Specific

Functional training provides essential training for sport specific conditioning.

It enhances the relationship between the nervous and musculoskeletal system, providing quick, reactive, and powerful movement patterns.

Whether your chosen sport is golf, rugby or MMA. Conor McGregor is a prime example of how functional training and movement patterns are important in specific sports.

Core Strength

In functional training every exercise involves core activation, teaching the core to stabilise the spine against external force, with different movement patterns and body positions.

Therefore mimicking the demand placed upon the core and spine in our everyday tasks and recreational activities.

Crunches alone, unfortunately just aren’t enough.

Give it a try at feel the benefits.

Connor.
